Saturday, June 27, 8:30a.m. – Work trip on the Appalachian Trail.

Saturday, July 4, 9:09a.m. – Independence Day 12.5 mile bicycle ride on quiet country roads. 
Meet at Virginville Grange along Rt. 143 next to the hotel (park in the large lot BHIND the hall).  Bring bike, helmet, water bottle and money for Kutztown Folk Festival later. Ron Kieffer 484-269-0852.

Sunday, July 12, 1:30p.m. – Sharp Mt. Circle hike 3.5 miles up scenic Gold Mine Run past old RR grade and back on old stage coach road.  Wading is optional.  Meet at AT crossing Rt. 501 parking lot.  George Shollenberger 717-933-4858.

Friday – Sunday, July 17-19 – KTA Prowl the Sproul weekend in Clinton County, Sproul State Forest.  Camping and meals available.  www.kta-hike.org or info@kta-hike.org.

Sunday, July 19, 9:09a.m. – Rt. 183 Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup.  Traditional litter cleanup along 183 straddling AT crossing.  Vests, gloves, bags provided.  Bring water, lunch and money for fun at Knoebel’s Grove after cleanup. Meet at gameland parking lot Rt. 183.  Ron Kieffer 484-269-0852.

Sunday, July 26, 8:30a.m. – Work Trip on the Appalachian Trail.  Enjoy the outdoors and help with trail work.  Bring lunch and fluids.  Meet at Bethel Library I-78 & Rt. 501.  George Shollenberger 717-933-4858.

Sunday, August 2, 10:00a.m. – Ladies Day on the Trail.  Easy hike while clipping, trimming small branches and clearing the AT.  Discover the reward and enjoyment of helping to maintain the AT.  Beginners welcome, men welcome, tools provided.  Bring work gloves, water and snacks.  Meet at Shartlesville gamelands parking lot.  Martyann Gutierrez 610-777-1442.

Saturday, August 15 – Edge of the Woods Native Plant Nursery Tour.  Over 300 species of native trees, shrubs, grasses, ferns, etc.  Dr. Doug Tallamy, Prof & Chair of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at Univ. of Delaware will speak and sign his book “Bringing Home Nature”.  His research has shown the important link between native plants and healthy ecosystems.  Pre-registration and a $15.00 fee are required for Dr. Tallamy.  Call for details Fred & Linda Enders Roxberry 610-775-3004.

Saturday, August 15, 7:07p.m. – Starry summer nights part 1.  Van pool to Lehigh Valley Amateur Astronomical Society’s South Mt. Planetarium & Observatories along East Rock Road off I-78 Summit Lawn exit for their monthly Star Party.  This group has the observatory at Pulpit Rock.  Excellent activity for young and older folks.  Meet at C.J. Sunday, August 16, 9:00a.m. – Bartram Rail-Trail easy slow, 10 mile ride along the Schuylkill River from West Hamburg to trail end near Auburn.  Flat, packed stone surface.  Meet at trailhead parking lot at Kernsville Dam Road.  David Reitz 610-921-3303.

Friday, August 21, 12-9:30p.m. – Public Relations Event at Bethany Children’s Home.  Entertainment includes Ringgold Band, Uptown Band, fireworks.  Free admission.  Volunteers needed to staff our display table.  Gene McCarney 610-286-2899.

Saturday, August 22, 7:07p.m. – Starry summer nights part 2.  Night hike or ride to Pulpit Rock to visit with members of LVAAS to look through their telescopes.  Last time out we saw the Northern Lights.  Decent is steep and gravely, wear appropriate shoes and socks.  Cloudy skies cancel.  Alternative will be Liar’s Lair B&B to play games.  Camp out optional.  Meet at C.J. Saturday, August 29, 9:00a.m. – Sanders Farm at Hawk Mt. Road Hike & picnic.  Start with 6 mile shuttle hike with extended break at Dan’s Pulpit.  Bring picnic and lawn chair to enjoy Eckville facilities hosted by caretaker “Lazee” after the hike or just join the group at the picnic at approx. 4p.m.  Grill & fridge provided.  BMECC MEMBERS AND THEIR GUESTS ONLY.  Adverse weather cancels.  Meet at Hawk Mt. Sunday, September 6, 9:00a.m. – Hamburg Reservoir – Pulpit Rock hike 6 miles moderate.  Cool summer hike, doing a reverse loop past Hamburg Reservoir and on up to Pulpit Rock via Furnace Creek.  Return via observatories to blue blazed trail to the AT and past Windsor Furnace ruins.  A few short rocky sections.  Meet at Hamburg Reservoir parking area.  Ed Glausman 610-921-3252 or ecg8@juno.com.

Saturday, September 12 – KTA hosts Susquehanna 25 mile super hike.  Follow the Mason-Dixon trail and Conestoga trail along both sides of the Susquehanna River.  Participants can register at www.active.com or www.kat-hike.org.  Volunteers are needed for check-in points and registration.  Becky at ktaadmin@verizon.net or 717-238-7017.

Saturday, September 19, 8:00a.m. – 12 mile Shuttle Hike Sand Springs to Port Clinton.  Shuttle to Shartlesville Gamelands parking lot, hike Sand Springs trail to AT , Eagles Nest Shelter, north on AT and down to Port Clinton. Difficult. Meet at Port Clinton parking lot West side of Rt. 61.  Must call the leader in advance – Cliff Weinhold 610-763-0815.

Sunday, September 20, 10:00a.m. – Stoney Valley Rail-Trail 10 mile bike ride from Gold Mine Road parking lot to Lebanon Reservoir and return.  Easy flat ride, but fat tire bike suggested.  Meet at Gold Mine Road Parking lot.  Dave Reitz 610-921-3303.
